I know that many of our regular audience members are interested primarily in
orchestral concerts but, whilst the dream of
professional orchestral concerts in the Watford area remains unfulfilled, I hope that you will take
the opportunity to find delight and inspiration from other musical forms.
In programming this series I have tried to retain the links with
artists who featured in our concerts at the Colosseum and to retain some hint of
orchestral flavour through including well-known orchestral works in alternative
transcriptions.
For 2011-12 we are again deeply grateful for the support of The
Purcell School in providing their hall at short notice when other plans fell
through. As a result of this The Purcell School Symphony Orchestra will be
returning to Watford Colosseum: we had planned to present this concert within
the subscription series but unfortunately issues of data protection made this
impossible. We do urge you to continue to support the orchestra by going to the
concert on 30th October but recommend paying cash and avoiding the venue’s £1.50
per ticket booking charge.
If we are to move forwards we need to cover costs this season
and raise additional funds so we hope that all our supporters will donate
generously in order to help create a sustainable and developing programme. More
and more people are embracing our online services not only ticket sales but
email information services and programme downloads. This not only saves us money
but allows more efficient use of resources as well as helping us produce a
greener, cleaner operation. Last season the demand for subscription tickets
greatly exceeded our capacity so do please book early and donate generously to
avoid disappointment. I am really excited by these programmes and another great
series of concerts.
All performances take place at the Constance Pilkington Hall,
The Purcell School and I look forward to seeing you there.
